A PLACE OF PEACE AND ENERGY
This deeply mystical 7 day Sacred Mythic Journey takes us to some of the most mysterious and sacred sites of England. Stonehenge is a massive stone monument located on a chalky plain north of the modern-day city of Salisbury, England. Research shows that the site has continuously evolved over a period of about 10,000 years. The structure that we call “Stonehenge” was built between roughly 5,000 and 4,000 years ago and was one part of a larger sacred landscape that included a massive stone monument that was 15 times the size of Stonehenge.
THE BALANCE OF WISDOM AND POWER
The Celts also worshipped horses and one of the most famous is the rather strange creature on the hill above Uffington in Oxfordshire (historically Berkshire). It is the thought to have been made by the Belgic tribe in southeast England between 50BC and 50AD. It is 374 feet long and 130 feet high and probably represents a Celtic God. It has a strange ‘beaked’ muzzle and the limbs are disjointed. This horse is one of the oldest. A similar ‘horse’ is featured on old Celtic coins from 150BC. The horse is a universal symbol of freedom without restraint, because riding a horse made people feel they could free themselves from their own bindings.
THE CENTER OF PAGAN WORSHIP
White horse and hill figures are among the most interesting features of the chalk downlands in southern England. Some of these figures can trace their roots back to the Celts. The Celts first came to Britain in 500BC bringing with them their style of pagan worship. The Celts thought of their gods as giants and portrayed them as such. On many grassy hills in Britain can still be seen these huge figures of men and horses.
RICH IN BOTH MYTH AND HISTORY
Located in England’s Southwest corner is the legendary village of Glastonbury. Rich in both myth and history, Glastonbury is one of the most spellbinding places in the World. Recognized as a spiritual center since the megalithic era, it is the site of the first Christian church in the British isles and claimed to be the Avalon of King Arthur.
HOLY MECCA OF THE DRUIDS
Druid priests and society considered Glastonbury their ‘holy mecca’. Understandably so. Complete with temples, stone circles, fertility sites and a sacred Goddess center, druid high priests and high priestesses were trained, initiated and centered at the Tor and Chalice Well. The Chalice wellspring was considered to be the earth source for the Goddess, Gaia. Her red waters were sacred and used for healing.
CONNECTING YOU WITH THE SOUL OF LIFE ITSELF
The small village of Glastonbury itself is lovely and quaint, cradled among a series of velvety green hills. The tallest of these hills is the famous Tor, an oblong ‘whale shaped’ hill formation with the impressive monolithic remains of a church tower on top, dedicated to the Archangel Michael. At the foot of the Tor is the Chalice Well and the spherical dome of Chalice Hill.
