JAMAICA – THE HEART OF THE CARIBBEAN
This vibrant 7 day Sacred Mythic Journey begins in the Caribbean, on the tropical island of Jamaica. Here, we will visit an indigenous Rastafarian village, swim in bioluminescent algae-rich waters (yes, disturbing the water with movement does indeed make it glow in the dark!), ride a horse into the sea and much, much more!
LEARNING FROM A RASTAFARIAN WAY OF LIFE
There are approximately one million followers of the Rastafari movement worldwide. Thanks to legendary musical icons like Bob Marley and the power of the internet of course, the message of the Rastafari movement has touched people everywhere in the world. Rastas are pretty health conscious and they consider their body to be a temple. They do not drink alcohol or eat food that is not nourishing to their body, which includes meat. Many follow a strict dietary law called ital, which states that all food must be completely natural and raw.
MARIJUANA AS A SPIRITUAL SACRAMENT
Rastas do not consider marijuana a drug. Instead, it is a medium that is used to open their mind and increase their spiritual awareness. Smoking marijuana is considered a religious ritual. Rastas believe that the Tree of Life mentioned in the Bible is the marijuana plant. They believe that ganja alters a user’s consciousness, ideals and objectives but only insofar as it removes the urge to pursue a Babylonian view of success. Instead, marijuana allows them to see past the world of material possessions and self-destructive pleasures. According to the Rastafari outlook, the effects of smoking marijuana allow the user to reach a sort of “cosmic consciousness,” a state where they become closer to “Jah” (God) and can see the truth of the world more clearly.
FROLICKING IN THE LUMINOUS LAGOON
Being home to millions of dinoflagellates. At night, the lagoon sparkles and glistens when disturbed, as these microscopic organisms produce an eerie glow, reflecting the outlines of fish and other objects in the water. The Luminous Lagoon is said to be the largest and most brilliant of four in the world, a fact that continually attracts and awes visitors and scientists from around the world. Don’t miss the chance to witness this natural phenomenon for yourself.
